Create Opportunities for Economically and Socially Marginalized Producers
Fair Trade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Members create social and economic opportunities through trading partnerships with marginalized producers. Members place the interests of producers and their communities as the primary concern of their enterprise.
This Principle in Practice
In February of 2014, our producer partner of over 30 years trained 5 patients of Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Center (SIRC) in Banepa, Nepal to sew the recycled rubber tire bags sold by Ganesh Himal Trading. This simple skills training allowed these recently paralyzed individuals to earn an income, provide for their families and so much more.
All four of these young men are very proud to be earning income and able to go outside. When they don’t have work they play basketball or swim at the nearby school or go to the nearby cinema together via chair. There is no public transportation available to them because buses think they occupy too much space. Each is the main income earner for their family.
“Sadle Traders is happy to be a part of this team to rehabilitate spinal injury victims. We all appreciate your purchase of these recycled rubber tire bags and your support of this endeavor and of Nepal.”
We at Ganesh Himal are so proud to stand beside our amazing Nepali partners as they strengthen their communities.
Fair Trade is:
Social & economic opportunity through trade
